Do We Make Extra Sutures In The Stapler Line During Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery?

We do not put extra stitches on the stapler line. In addition to our experience of more than 1600 operations, many academic publications show that the extra suture increases the risk of leakage. The extra stitch that is thrown breaks the resistance of the staple line, slows the healing of the staple line, which increases the risk of leakage.

In a total of 189,477  Sleeve Gastrectomy operations performed by 1634 general surgeons in 720 different centers between 2012-2014, 0.96% leakage complication was observed in cases where extra stitches were inserted into the stapler line, while in cases where extra stitches were not inserted, this rate is 0.65%
